First Step:
Figure out your passion...this is obvious, it is makeup! BUT, the question you need to ask yourself is, "do I want to work in smaller low-key jobs for local clients, do larger events (like weddings, etc.), or work in television?" Once you make that decision, you are ready to take baby steps forward into the world of a Freelance Makeup Artist.
Education:
To be or not to be? Is the question...
I will be the first to say you do NOT need a piece of paper showing that you went to Cosmetology School/Makeup Artistry School or got a license to do makeup, but at the end of the day, you want to be successful. To be successful includes taking some minor classes to keep up on your game. You will want to know all the new techniques for makeup application and learn about various types of makeup, what works best for whom, and what colors accentuate the variety of skin types/colors on different people. I suggest keeping up on new trends and taking a class here and there throughout your career.
Supplies:
The 3rd step is to stock up on every makeup supply you will need for your career. To start, you will want to invest in good makeup storage. You will want to buy a makeup case that can hold all of your supplies and will work well with your career. There are many different types with wheels or that can solely be carried.
Once you purchase your makeup train case, you will then need to purchase AT LEAST 2 makeup brush sets. One for current use, while the other is being sanitized, washed and laid flat to dry. Once you have this, you will then need at the very least, a variety of the listed products:
Foundations in various skin tones
Primer
Setting powder in various skin tones
Variety of Eye Shadows
Variety of Lip Gloss & Lipstick
Variety of Eye Liners (Gel, Cream, Liquid & Pencil)
Variety of Mascaras (different wands for different effects)
Cleaning Solution for brushes & Antibacterial Spray (for brushes)
Facial wipes/eye makeup remover
Disposable Mascara wands, Lip brushes & Q-tips
Tape
False Eyelashes (in different styles)
Overtime, you will collect even more fun makeup goodies.
Marketing: One of the most important steps is advertising your business. There are several ways you can do so. Here is a list of examples: Social Media Marketing, Radio, verbal Mouth-Mouth, Brochures,
& Business cards. Another great thing is to advertise your new business by promoting w/ a personal website & blog.
Last Step: Now that you have built the following; earned a high fan, following, and clientele base, you can purchase an appointment book and start booking clients, or events!
*Key thing to remember is that no matter what, everything in life isn't just handed to us. We need to remain determined, keep focused and ambitious. Through hard work and dedication, anything is possible. So stay on track and never give up. Try to maintain a "personal" level w/ your clients and followers. The more they "like" you, the more they will do business w/ you & are willing to promote you as an artist on Facebook and other social media websites--which in the long run makes you more and more successful!

Eyeliner Looks
A fun way to enhance any makeup look is the use of liquid eyeliner!
Try lining your eyes in black liquid liner. Play with it and have fun!
Take a look at the example below to give
you some easy ways to do your eyeliner.
Try a mod look: a very simple makeup application (nude colors,
matte, or a light shimmer on the lid) and then
add black liner...don't forget the bright liners as well!
Spring/Summer is the best time to pull out those BRIGHT shades of liner
and start lining your lids or the lower lash line!

Bitch-Slap Cosmetics have the best array of gel/cream liner! Check them out! http://www.bitchslap-cosmetics.com/categories/EYESHADOWS-%252dEYELINERS/ |
Maybelline has a great variety (like the one above) of
liquid liner. Their fairly reasonably priced at most
drug-stores. I tend to find them for around $5 or less.
If you have the extra $$ to spare--Dior's eyeliner is
to die for!!!! Sold @ Sephora and any higher end makeup
supply stores:) (MY FAVE: is a pen-tip...brushes are
alittle hard to use. Also using gel-liners w/ a brush,
can be a little easier when starting out)
Fun & Easy Spring/Summer Hair
I have had many requests for easy hair do's for Spring/Summer...
Now, it's finally here! I have posted (below)
a handful of beautiful hair styles. Right now braids are super
hot! They are an easy and fun way to showcase your
hair during these warmer seasons. Another key
hair during these warmer seasons. Another key
thing to remember is that summer isn't the time for smooth and tamed hair.
Keep hair cute and sexy by leaving it messy. You can do this with waves (great for short
or long hair) and by putting hair up in a messy bun. Take a look at the
posted pics and find a hair style to fit your liking.
Play around with it a bit and soon you will
be rocking a cute hairstyle too! xo, ASH

Try sweeping hair to the side in a very messy braid!
Super sexy!!!
This is one of my favorite looks--->
Streaking hair in fun colors to fit your mood!
There is no better time than the
season for creating
this cool & unique look!!!! Try it for yourself!
Fun messy waves w/ a headband! |
Probably one of my all time favorite looks is short & choppy hair. This particular cut is fun for any season, but will keep you sexy & cool for the hotter seasons:) |
Check out Ms. Conrad--sporting a messy wave in a pony tail.
Pony tails are hot this season and the best way to rock them is with waves:) Shorter hair lengths can also do this. Use pins to put up any excess hair that tries to get away from you! xxx
